WOODSTOCK — Producers of the popular reality TV show “Survivor” will be in Woodstock next month looking for contestants to participate in the competition to win $1 million.

The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta will have the casting call Sept. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., where auditions will be taped, paperwork will be filled out and judges will consider contenders.

Woodstock Director of Tourism and Visitors Center Operations Kyle Bennett said he anticipates a large crowd to turn out at the casting call.

“Anything entertainment related, especially with a TV show, it always generates a lot of excitement. People really identify with that,” Bennett said Tuesday. “With all the stuff on reality TV, and Survivor kind of being the granddaddy of all reality TV shows, I think that will elicit a lot of excitement.”

Bennett said he expects a huge turnout for the audition next month.

The “Survivor” reality TV show started in 2000, and has since taken more than 200 contestants all over the world to compete in a contest to “outwit, outplay and outlast” each other to try to win $1 million.

“I would anticipate a really, really big turnout. Anytime people have the opportunity to be an extra on a TV show or movie, or to actually try out to be on a show, it generates a massive response no matter what community you do it in,” Bennett said.

Because the “Survivor” show is based on outdoor challenges, Bennett said there will probably be a lot of Woodstock residents interested in participating in the audition.

“With the high percentage of people who live in Woodstock that are really interested in outdoor activities — like hiking, canoeing and kayaking, biking — I think there will be a lot of people who live in this area who would be really interested in doing that kind of outdoor adventure show,” he said.

Miliza Whitfield, marketing director at The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta, said the outlet mall is glad to host the upcoming “Survivor” casting call.

“We are delighted to host the CBS46 Survivor casting call at The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta and partner with one of American’s favorite shows,” she said.

Bennett said this event will probably be the first time some residents visit the outlet mall, and even the first time for many people to see Woodstock, who may come from outside the area.

“This is the type of event that will draw people that usually wouldn’t go there,” he said. “When someone goes somewhere for the first time, they usually find out it has a lot more to offer them than they might have imagined. So I think this will be a great chance for the Outlet Shoppes to showcase what they have to offer.”

The “Survivor” casting calls are open to legal residents of the 50 states in the U.S. and Washington, D.C., who are at least 18 years old.

The Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta is at 915 Ridgewalk Parkway in Woodstock.
